Week 12- The last week in November!
On Monday we had a rather wet and windy start to our week and rather than skipping into Robins, some of us seemed to be blown through the door! As the wind blew the leaves across our outside area we settled down into the warmth of the Robins classroom and began our day.
Although our rainforest has now turned rather chilly, this doesn't deter most of us from venturing out and exploring the junk modelling area, we simply love building our own models and this week certainly didn't disappoint!
"Look at my plane!"
"Look at the oven I made!"
We even continued our love for construction this week by using the Duplo to build everything from "look Mrs Brown the tallest towers ever!" to helicopters to take us to the moon, what more could we need! It was also lovely to see our Robins working as a community to share the Duplo and construct together!
In Maths this week we have been exploring 'wholes' and 'parts' by exploring whole things that are made up of small part such as toys and also our own bodies! Robins loved singing 'Heads, shoulders, knees and toes' and then saying our stem sentence...
"My .......is a part of me and the whole of me is .....(their name)"
Why not try this at home? How many different parts of the body can you think of?
We then had a go at putting this into practice with our number 5, using our favourite 5 peas in a pod song as inspiration!
Robins loved exploring parts and wholes and what could be more fun than taking our learning and putting it into practice with jigsaw puzzles! As the children were split into 3 groups, they were set the challenge to work as a team, working together to put their parts together to create the whole of the puzzle.
It was a delight to hear the excited voices as they set off on their challenges...."Mrs Brown, I love it! I've never done a jigsaw before!", despite some of us finding it tricky, "I can't find where it goes!", we showed excellent perseverance and as we slotted the final pieces in places, cheers of excitement "we did it!", could be heard across the room!
Our love for reading continues to grow as the children's confidence with segmenting and blending goes from strength to strength, remember to continue to practice those tricky words at home and support your child by making reading an enjoyable experience. We should now be aiming for 4-5 reads of the book (the whole book) per week.
In Robins they thoroughly engage with and enjoy selecting their new library book every Monday so don't forget to bring your old library book back on a Monday morning ready to be changed.
Without giving too much away, it is getting to that time of year when the festivities are beginning and the gentle jingle of bells can be heard! This week the children began learning their songs with Kingfishers for the Nativity, we were very excited that one of them we already knew! After singing the songs it also inspired us to take the Nativity story into our free flow, with some of us deciding to draw pictures from the Nativity story!
We even got to begin making some of our Christmas crafts but we're not giving too much away!
We missed so many of you on Wednesday afternoon, however we heard all the rave reviews about Pinocchio, so well done Watermill Theatre, sounds like the audience enjoyed a real treat!
On Thursday we enjoyed two more Show and Tell discussions. The first item involved dinosaurs and crabbing - how many of you can honestly say you too have had those discussions during the work day! Another reason we just love being in Robins, every day is different. Item two involved an arctic penguin and a hedgehog. Both 'speakers' presented their items well and answered many questions - another fantastic session.
In other news....rehearsals are well and truly underway, lines are being learnt, songs being sung and costumes being fitted - its all taking shape nicely.
Finally, we went for our weekly welly walk on Friday afternoon, but this week was a little bit more special - we were hanging our Christmas decorations on the village Christmas tree. The tree already looked amazing when we arrived but we do feel our contributions have added further to its awe and beauty! If you find yourselves out walking this weekend then do pop over to the village hall to take a look at the decorations.
....and finally finally - sounds for phonics next week are

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday
ps - we do have all costumes and props in school so at this moment in time all you need to do is relax - no sewing required!
Really .....this is the last part.....All of Robins (don't know if they have told you this part), yes ALL of Robins signed themselves up to the craft club next Tuesday - they will be making SNO-NKs. See the attached photo for what bits and pieces they need to bring with them on Monday.
