WEEK 4 TERM 1
As I type this on a Friday evening, I cannot help but reflect on how for the Robins have come - just three full weeks in and they seem to have everything in control - they are cracking on with this school business!
In they come every morning full of confidence, the routine doesn't change so they know exactly what to do. when to do it and how to do it. This week we started using the visual timetable and my goodness they are already so good at telling me what we are going to do next.
In Poetry Basket we have learnt 5 Little Pumpkins - I wonder if they can remember the poems at home? So far we have learnt...
* Chop Chop
* Pointy Hat
* 5 little Pumpkins
In PE with Mr Mandry we were balancing - low, medium and high balancing - we saw some really creative shapes and very few wobbles. We saw amazing support, teamwork and lots and lots of fun. Each week I am in awe of the skills they learn and develop, I am no expert so when Mr Mandry (who is an expert) told me that he was really impressed with how they are approaching these PE lessons, well lets just say I walked out of the hall with my head held high. Robins are amazing!
In Maths, we finished off our topic of sorting and shape - we have been sorting by size, colour and now shape. Next week we will go on our first welly walk and we will be looking for shapes in the environment whilst out walking.
We were also introduced to the mathematical word "subitising". Basically, it means the ability to look at a small group of objects and instantly know how many there are without counting them one by one, for example when rolling a dice - children recognise 6 without having to count each dot.
Our fine motor control is really improving as is our controlled use of small tools such as scissors, paintbrushes and cutlery. School lunches are proving popular, again this helps with developing cutlery skills, our cutting skills (as seen in the shape photos above) are becoming really accurate, we are using modelling tools to shape our playdough. We were back at our powder paint colour mixing stations, this week mixing blue and yellow to make green and we started our cutlery skill activities by spreading butter onto crackers - of course we then had to eat them to make sure we had spread they butter to the corners otherwise our crackers would have been to dry.....and we had to wash up after ourselves!
So before I sign off for the weekend - I just want to officially introduce to you......
Robins Class 2026
Finally - if possible, would your child be able to bring in a baby photo of themselves for our RE book - I can photo copy the original and return.
Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday
