WEEK 5 TERM 1

3 Oct 26

What started off as an awful week (for me) ended on a really positive and fun afternoon (for everyone) on Friday.

On Monday, my week got off to a dreadful start, as some of you may know. I set off for school at my usual time and guess what - I had a flat tyre which meant my car was going nowhere! A quick phone call to Mrs Langford and she was on her way to pick me up and save the day. Even though we arrived in school in plenty of time, the change of routine really threw me and stayed with me all morning!

The day started in the usual way, a fine motor activity followed by the register and ordering of lunches and then the visual timetable. Oh no, I had left the timetable symbols in my car - the car with the flat tyre that was still sitting on my drive. Caleigh came to my rescue - "We already know what to do - we don't need the pictures to help us." "Really?" I asked "Yes", came six little replies and they happily reeled off what their morning was going to look like - and they were spot on!

Monday afternoon we headed up to the Church in Chaddleworth for our first Welly Walk of the year. We jumped onto the minibus and to be honest we could have just sat in the car park for 20 minutes, they were that excited. So, when Mrs Langford turned on the ignition well you would have thought we were going on the holiday of a lifetime. We headed up to the Church in readiness for our visit next Wednesday. When we returned to school we had a little bit of time before the end of the day so we headed out into the village, taking time for a quick stop at the bug hotel.

Tuesday meant Gymnastics with Mr Mandry. This week we had to perform with a partner. Our routine had to include the three elements we have learnt over the last three weeks, a roll, a jump and a balance (start and end positions). I wish you could have been there to see all the routines - they were all fantastic.

In Maths, we have continued to subitise. This week we were subitising to four and created some subitising finger print pictures.

In Phonics, we have continued to learn our letter sounds.

So far we have learnt...

s,a,t,i,p,n,n,m,d,g,o,c,k,ck,e,u,r

Using these letters, we are now ready to start blending in order to read.

sat, pin, sit, pat, ten, men, dog, got

Next Monday we will talk more about this in our reading workshop - looking forward to seeing you all there - we will be giving out reading books too!

As well as learning the sound and saying the sound, we have been learning to write the sound. Take a look at how we are getting on.

As well as writing the sounds and learning to control a pencil during our phonics sessions, there are many opportunities throughout the day to continue to mark make and use small tools independently to develop the hand muscles.

And as I said at the beginning, we ended the busy week with our first house meeting. The focus of the meeting was to create our new House Posters. It was a fantastic afternoon with lots of smiles, chats and a real sense of whole school community. The finished posters will be revealed soon so watch this space. In the meantime, here is a sneak preview.

Next week is another busy busy week.
