WEEK 6 TERM 1
Huge thank you to those of you who were able to attend the Phonics workshop on Monday. Already we are seeing and hearing about some lovely reading going on at home - you are all super stars! Keep going with the blending - we know it is painful at times but the rewards are worth it.
Next week, we will meet again for parents evening - if you haven't booked a slot yet, please give Mrs Lambert in the office a call and she will sort it all out - she is amazing!
On Monday we went for our welly walk. It was so warm and sunny, we decided not to go in wellies or coats....we even had to double check that we were indeed in October.
We started off by aiming for the 'top of the world', you know what I mean, the hill opposite the school. We reached the top and decided not to stop, we were walking, we were talking and we were having the most joyous afternoon - so we simply kept on going - we were living life in all its fullness. An hour later, we were still walking and talking although the pace had certainly slowed and we did have a few pairs of tired legs. What an afternoon and what a start to our week.
Tuesday, Mr Mandry was back. This week the apparatus was out - yes there were wall bars, benches and ropes! I tried so hard to take some good photos - not one has turned out any good they are all just a blur of purple, green and red t-shirts. The children were so active, swinging, climbing, jumping, balancing - they were on the go from start to finish.
On the timetable for Tuesday afternoon was French. Mrs Chrimes has been teaching the children all about minibeasts - they are exploring words such as la coccinelle (ladybird) l'escargot (snail) l'araignee (spider)
Wednesday morning, our whole school worship was just a little bit different, same people just in a different place. We headed up to St. Andrew's Church in Chaddleworth for our first Church Service. All Robins were welcomed into the school / Church community and were gifted a bible. "I am going to read a story every night from this book - I really love it" said Arthur.
Also on Wednesday and Thursday we kicked off our understanding of Black History Month by learning about Rosa Parks. We were all in agreement that the rule of where people were and weren't allowed to sit on a bus was NOT a good rule at all. We were not quite sure though if Rosa Parks was right to break the rules "She was only doing what she was told to do" said Nancy. "She got taken away by the police and that is not good" said Daisy. We will continue to deepen our understanding further throughout the month. Below is an extract from the book we are using - I cannot recommend these book enough they are great (especially for stocking fillers).
And then in a blink of an eye it was Friday and we were all wearing yellow to acknowledge World Mental Heath Day.
We finished off our Friday afternoon with a bit of colour mixing to create some Harvest themed pumpkin painting - don't they look fantastic.
Have a good weekend and see you all on Monday
